Sharing a meal
On my 25th birthday (December 2019), I took a pledge to share meals with people living in difficult conditions around the world — where the availability of daily food is uncertain for families.
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s leading humanitarian agency dedicated to solving global hunger. The UN agency has been working hard to provide humanitarian support to millions living today in areas of war, unrest and disasters.
ShareTheMeal, is an android app under the WFP which gives us a platform to connect with families and extend your help either contributing one time or monthly.

It was a simple theory for me. Living in Bangalore, I spend 200-300 rupees for one meal a day. On weekends, it goes up to 500-600 rupees for two meals. If I end up consuming roughly around 45 meals in a month, it amounts to Rs.9000 (averaging Rs.200 per meal). This is the kind of math we see when in living in a ultra mega city.
I thought of joining “The Table” — a monthly pledge under “Share the Meal” with a sum of 900 rupees. If you think about it, it translates to not ordering 3-5 times in a month.
Today, it’s almost a year. I am happy to share few details.
I feel grateful that ShareTheMeal enabled me to reach out to 12 families in last 12 months across 4 countries. With Rs. 15,300 in year, together we pledged 390 meals.
Together we can end hunger. It a small step — skipping outside for 5 times helped me reach this place.
Whatever we have, we can share. This time it was meals. Next time it can be much more. At the end, we are in this together no?
